The application process at Titan

At Titan, we develop and build salt factories worldwide and manufacture equipment for the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries. We need many skilled professionals for this work. That is why we would like to explain how to apply for a job with us, from the first contact to your first day at work.

Our HR Department

In 2020, we moved from Sneek to Bolsward, and from that moment Titan grew rapidly. We started with our own workshop, which meant we didn’t just need engineers anymore, but also welders and fabricators. That’s when having an HR department became essential. For the past 2.5 years, Susan Walstra has been our go-to person. She takes care of contracts, onboarding, and is always there as a listening ear for colleagues.

Easy Application Process

At Titan, we don’t believe in old-fashioned hiring procedures. We keep it simple: you can walk into our office, send Susan a WhatsApp message, or just give her a call. We understand that you might not always have a résumé ready—especially if you’re not actively job hunting. Sometimes candidates simply drop by and say, “Hi! I saw you on Instagram and I’d love to work here!” Others send a quick message asking if we have a role that might suit them.

No matter how you reach out, we always take the time to see if Titan is the right fit for you—and if you’re the right fit for us. For us, it’s about finding a place where you can work with passion and enjoyment. We don’t just look at résumés; we also care about your motivation and the character you bring.

The Hiring Process

Here’s what our application process usually looks like:

  • You can apply with a quick message, a phone call, or an email. Welders sometimes even send us a picture of their work. Walking in is always welcome, too.

  • We review your application and are curious to hear your story.

  • Susan Walstra (HR) is your main contact and will get back to you.

  • You’ll start with an introduction interview, always together with a colleague from the department. Quite often, our owners Hans Ulco de Boer or Robert van Voorst will also join.

  • Next comes a second interview or a trial day, so you can experience the atmosphere and get a real sense of a workday here. This goes for all roles, including office positions. Meeting plenty of colleagues is important to us.

  • Finally, you’ll sit down with Susan to go over your contract and confirm your official start date.

Everything Is Custom

Every applicant brings their own story and experience. For some roles, a degree or certification is required, but often you’ll build your profile with us over time. We don’t think in boxes—and we know not everyone fits neatly into one. That’s why we look at each application individually. The fit has to feel right.

What We Value

We regularly explore what’s happening both in the job market and within our own company. What are young people looking for in a job? We often learn through trial and error. What we’ve seen is that applicants often prioritize atmosphere, teamwork, and growth opportunities over salary. Of course, fair pay always comes with the role and responsibilities, but enjoying your work is just as important.

A Buddy to Get You Started

When you join us, you’ll be paired with an experienced colleague—someone who shows you the ropes and who you can turn to with any questions. That way, you don’t have to worry about practical things like break times or where to find documents.

In the workshop, experienced trainers will teach you everything about materials and techniques. In the office, young engineers—many of whom have been with Titan for years—are eager to share their knowledge. By pairing new employees with seasoned team members, we see everyone grow, and that’s something we all enjoy.

In Closing

Now you have a sense of what applying at Titan looks like. Curious to learn more about us as an employer? Reach out to Susan—you know how to find her!
